How to remove a password from a PDF

If you own the file (or have explicit permission), you can remove the password so you don't need to enter it every time.

Steps
  1. Check what kind of protection you have: open password vs restrictions (permissions).
  2. If the PDF prompts on open, make sure you know the correct open password.
  3. Upload the PDF to the Unlock PDF tool and (if needed) enter the password.
  4. Download the unlocked PDF and verify it opens without prompting.
  5. If editing/printing is still blocked, it may be a permissions lock (owner password).

Remove password FAQ

Why does the PDF still ask for a password after unlocking?+
Some PDFs have multiple layers (open password and permissions). If the file prompts when you open it, you need the open password. If it opens but blocks editing/printing/copying, it’s a permissions lock.
Can you remove a password without knowing it?+
No. We don’t crack unknown passwords. You must provide the correct password for open-password-protected files.
What if the PDF is scanned?+
Unlocking removes security restrictions, but it won’t turn scanned images into editable text. For that you’d need OCR.
